Pair of suspects busted in Kelowna for stealing RCMP bait car
A male driver and female passenger were arrested by Kelowna RCMP last week after stealing a bait car.
A Taser was found in a fanny pack on the floor of the vehicle early in the morning on Friday, Dec. 1, according to an RCMP media release issued today, Dec. 6. Both have been charged with auto theft.
The man, who RCMP say was a known offender, is in custody awaiting a court date. The woman was released pending an upcoming court appearance.
The bait vehicle was deployed the night before. RCMP officers were notified when it started moving and stopped it along Dilworth Drive.
The suspects also caused extensive damage to the doors and ignition of the vehicle.
“This is a great success story regarding a coordinated effort to counter property crime in Kelowna between the Proactive Enforcement Unit deploying the bait vehicles in hot spots and general duty officers arresting a known property crime offender within hours of deployment,” Cpl. Guillaume Tanguay, of the Kelowna RCMP Proactive Enforcement Team, said in the release.
