Test your mettle with a hot sauce challenge in Kelowna this summer
A Kelowna based hot sauce maker is inviting people to test their spice tolerance for a chance to win a prize.
Brutal Condiments’ owner and operator Hayden Duval has created 13 increasingly spicy sauces for the Brutal BBQ Pepper Sauce Challenge at Rustic Reel Brewing this summer, according to a press release.
“Whether you’re a heat seeker or a spice novice, prepare to test your taste buds against our brutal pepper sauce challenge,” said Duval.
Duval, 31, is a local chef and “pepperista” who started making condiments and hot sauces in 2023.
Some of Duval’s sauces have average jalapeno and habanero peppers, others are made with more extreme ghost peppers, Trinidad scorpion peppers, and Carolina reaper peppers.

Each sauce is placed on either chicken wings or cauliflower bites and contestants have to eat their way through all 13 sauces to get a chance to win “fantastic prizes” in a draw at the end of the year.
Sauce fanatics can test their taste buds on May 25, June 10, July 8, Aug. 12, and Sept. 9, at either 5 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. The event is restricted to those over 19.
Tickets are $49 and they include the wings, a beer, and the live entertainment at each event.
