Perfect weekend for full moon watching predicted in Kamloops, Okanagan
Sky watchers and photographers should have ample time and perfect weather to view June’s Strawberry moon this weekend.
The moon will appear full from Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday night, reaching its peak illumination on Sunday at 2:42 a.m., according to NASA. The bright star Antaras will be appearing to the right of it.
The moon in June has many names, like rose, mead and honey, but it’s traditionally called the Strawberry moon, which of course has nothing to do with its hue or appearance. The name’s been use by Algonquian tribes living in the northeastern United States along with the Ojibwe, Dakota and Lakota people to mark the ripening of the strawberries.
Honey moon and mead moon are European names that point to the month being a traditional month of marriage. Following marriage comes the honeymoon, which could be connected to the name.

There isn’t a cloud in sight forecast for skies throughout Kamloops and the Okanagan according to Environment Canada. Friday and Saturday nights will be slightly breezy while Sunday will be calm. Nighttime temperature lows are predicted to be roughly 13 C these nights.
