A nearly 100-year-old heritage hotel is on the market in Kamloops.

At 405 Victoria Street, The Plaza hotel was listed last week with a $6.75 million asking price.

"This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire hospitality property in a very thriving community," the Royal LePage Kelowna listing reads.

The 67-room hotel was built in 1928 to promote the city as a tourist destination, according to a City heritage value description.

Its Spanish Colonial Revival design was created by architect Ernest T. Brown, who was also behind the nearby and similarly-styled Benevolent Order of the Elks building on Seymour Street. That building is commonly known for its theatre, The Rex, which finished construction a year earlier than The Plaza in 1927.

"The Plaza, which was intended to be the finest hotel in British Columbia’s interior, was seen as an essential city amenity that would appeal to the new influx of tourists travelling by motorcar," the City's heritage description reads.

By 1948, it was expanded with 44 more rooms and continues as a hotel today, with other businesses operating on its ground floor.

The six-storey Plaza Hotel was listed as a heritage building in 2009.
