Two tries by RCMP to arrest Vernon man wanted on warrants

It took RCMP officers two tries to arrest a 34-year-old Vernon man wanted on outstanding warrants this past weekend.

Officers were dispatched to a home on Head of the Lake Road in Vernon at around 2:15 p.m. Sunday May 12, when police learned a wanted man was there, according to an RCMP media release.

The arriving officers spotted a vehicle associated to the wanted man in the driveway and saw him go into the home through a patio door.

“Despite requests from police for the man to exit the residence, the man refused to cooperate,” Vernon RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Tania Finn said in the release issued today, May 14.

“The suspect fled on foot from our officers through a side door and over a fence into several yards.”

Back up was on the way but in the meantime the suspect circled back, jumped into a vehicle and sped away hitting a police cruiser in the process.

He drove off the road and got stuck in a field but escaped on foot.

Despite calling in a police dog to search for the suspect, he got away.

Then at around 7 p.m. the suspect returned to the same home and heavily-armed officers from the emergency response team arrested the man inside the residence.

A 34-year-old Vernon man has been charged with dangerous driving, assault with a weapon and resisting arrest in connection to the Head of the Lake Road incident.
