Event Description

Emergency services and responders in Kamloops are uniting to host Emergency Services Day on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Sandman Centre parking lot at 300 Lorne Street. This free event is an integral part of Emergency Preparedness Week, which runs from May 5 to May 11 and aims to enhance community readiness for unforeseen emergencies.
Emergency Services Day offers residents a unique opportunity to interact with and learn from various emergency services teams and organizations operating in our community. Over a dozen partner organizations, including Kamloops Fire Rescue, RCMP, BC Sheriff Service, Rocky Mountain Rangers, Kamloops Search and Rescue, Kamloops Emergency Support Services, Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre, and many more, will participate, allowing attendees to gain valuable insights into emergency preparedness, available services, and volunteer opportunities.
“We are excited to once again host this event in our community to showcase the extraordinary teams and partners who serve and protect our community,” said Tracey Elias, the City’s Community Services Supervisor. “This event serves as a platform for residents to engage with emergency personnel, explore emergency vehicles and equipment, and gather essential knowledge to better prepare for emergencies.”
This year, Emergency Services Day introduces the Jail and Bail Fundraiser, an opportunity for residents, co-workers, and organizations to raise “bail” for community members slated for arrest during the event on May 11. Those unable to meet their bail will face the dunk tank where event attendees can make a fundraising contribution to dunk the arrested individual. Individuals to be arrested include Fire Chief Ken Uzeloc, Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Cail, firefighter Orrin Redan, Community Services Supervisor Mo Perri, and other community members.
All bail and dunk tank contributions will be shared among the Special Olympics BC - Kamloops, Kamloops Search and Rescue, and the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund.
“We're excited to introduce the fundraiser aspect to this event, reinforcing our commitment to supporting community partners," remarked Elias. "These organizations play a crucial role in providing assistance and support to those in need, and we're honoured to contribute to their cause through this collective effort."
The City of Kamloops extends special thanks to all the volunteers for their assistance in preparing for this community event.
Free event parking will be available during event hours in the Heritage House parking lot on Lorne Street and Riverside Park West on Uji Way. The Lansdowne Street and Seymour Street parkades offer free parking every weekend
