Police alerted by citizen to attempted downtown Kamloops break-in

Kamloops RCMP arrested a man for attempting to break into a downtown business on the weekend.

An RCMP officer was on patrol Saturday, March 2, when he was flagged down by a person on the street, according to an RCMP media release.

The person alerted him to break and enter that was happening on the 100 block of Victoria Street.

The officer located the suspect in the underground parkade at Lansdowne Street.

The suspect was arrested for breaking and entering and mischief. They were later released by police with conditions and a court date.

“The proactive patrols were in direct response to the recent increased break and enter reports received in the area, and not only led to an arrest, but also to the prevention of a business break-in,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

RCMP said charge recommendations are anticipated as part of the assessment and approval process.
