Man in critical condition after downtown Kamloops assault

Kamloops RCMP are investigating a downtown assault that left one man in the hospital and another in custody.

Kamloops RCMP received a report about a fight involving a weapon in the 100-block of Victoria Street around 7:15 p.m. on May 3, according to a press release from RCMP.

At this time police believe the assault happened after an argument escalated.

The victim is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police were able to quickly find the suspect who is still in custody.

“The victim is currently in critical condition, and investigators with the Serious Crime Unit are looking to speak with anyone who witnessed this incident,” Sgt. Nestor Baird said in the release. “We know there were lots of people in the area at the time who may have seen what happened, and we are asking anyone who has not yet spoken to police to please contact us as soon as possible. It is important that we speak with everyone who may have information as part of this ongoing investigation.”

Police believe the assault was an isolated incident and there is no risk to the public.

Anyone who witnessed, was in the area, or has video of the assault is asked to contact RCMP at  250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-13046.
