The Silver Star Wine Festival is set to return on Aug. 10 to the beautiful SilverStar Mountain Resort in Vernon. The four-day festival runs until Aug. 13 and brings together winemakers and wine enthusiasts from all over the province to celebrate the region's rich culture of grape-growing and winemaking.

This year, the Festival kicks off with a Thursday reception at Gallery Odin, Canada’s highest art gallery now in its 21st year, giving exposure to Western Canadian artists from British Columbia, Alberta, and the Yukon. As well, this year’s event will feature unique wine seminars led by industry experts showcasing the best of the best BC wines. Attendees will be able to learn more about the nuances of BC wines and gain insights into how different varietals pair with food. The Signature Walk-About Tasting Event returns, offering guests a chance to sample some of BC's finest wines with the addition of featured culinary fare from Chef Bernard Casavant. His impressive resume includes being the first West Coast-born and trained chef to represent Canada in the prestigious Bocuse d’Or Competition in France.

Details on the wine pairing dinners will be released soon. These will present the culinary artistry of the resort’s team of talented chefs including Scott Sanderson with SilverStar Mountain Resort, Jarred Sauve at Black Pine Social, and Tyler Lafferty at the Bulldog Grand Café.

The festival schedule is jam-packed and staying ‘up at the Star’ for the weekend is your best bet to take it all in. Cassandra Zerebeski is the Executive Director of SilverStar Resort.

"We're encouraging people to come and stay to enjoy the many events of the Festival," she says. "There’s so much to do, along with the hiking, cycling, gondola rides, the Elevate Aveda spa, dining and shopping that we offer all summer long."

SilverStar Resort is only twenty minutes from Vernon, which makes the Festival ideal as a getaway weekend from anywhere in the Okanagan, Alberta or Lower Mainland.

"All of our accommodation partners have offered discounts for the festival weekend," she says.

What could be better than that?

Destination Silver Star encourages everyone to join them during the four-day event. Explore the hidden gems of BC's wine culture, sample some truly remarkable wines and gain insights into pairing food with those wines.

"Go to the Signature Tasting," Zerebeski says. "Have dinner in the restaurants. Hang out on the patios. Enjoy a free concert with Josh Bogert and Andrew Allen. Everything is right in the village with the Monashees in the background. It’s the perfect spot on a summer weekend to hang out, dance and enjoy."
