It's that time of year again: Time to start thinking about winter tires.

Kamloops is a beautiful place to live, but the winter months can be tough on your vehicle. The cold weather and snow can make it difficult to get around, and if you don't have the right tires, you could be in for a long and frustrating season.

That's why it's important to get your winter tires on now, before the weather gets too bad. Winter tires are specifically designed to provide better traction and handling in the snow and ice. They're made from a softer compound than regular tires, so they remain pliable in cold temperatures. They also have unique tread designs that help to grip the road and improve traction. So, if you want to be prepared for Kamloops winters, make sure you get your winter tires on now. It could mean the difference between a safe and enjoyable season and a long, frustrating one. You might be wondering though, what are the latest trends in winter tire styles and manufacturing?

One trend we're seeing is a move towards smaller, lighter weight tires. This is in response to the growing popularity of smaller vehicles like crossover SUVs. Manufacturers are also experimenting with new tread patterns and compounds that improve grip in icy and snowy conditions. Some manufacturers add studs to their winter tires for even better traction – or they provide studdable options (which companies like Notre Dame Tire in Kamloops can add in the shop).

In British Columbia, winter tires must be on your vehicle from October 1 to April 30, and legal winter tires on a standard passenger vehicle or a four-wheel/all-wheel vehicle must have at least 3.5 mm of tread depth. They must be labeled with either an M + S (meaning mud and snow all season tires) or a three peak mountain snowflake symbol.
