A young Vernon girl who was hit by a truck while in a crosswalk last month has died of her injuries in hospital, her family has shared.

Lynza Henke was 15 years old.

"We loved the 15 years we had with Lynza. She has gone to heaven and we will miss her so much," her family posted to social media.

She was crossing at 32 Street and 30 Avenue on a green light around noon, July 20, when a truck turning right hit her, according to police.

Her family has reported through social media that Lynza suffered a setback last week.

"Lynza was trying to breath on her own but it became too hard and she had to go back on life support and remains in ICU. We remain hopeful that she will gain strength to breath again on her own," her supporters posted.

The Henke family are well known in the area for their store, Vernon Teach and Learn. Mother Lynella is also "suffering from serious and widespread cancer," the Henkes posted.
