Wood heat workshop will help South Okanagan homeowners burn better

A wood burning workshop is taking place at this week's home show in Penticton at the Trade and Convention Centre on Saturday, March 5, 2016.

PENTICTON - South Okanagan and Similkameen residents who are trying to beat the high cost of energy by heating their residences with wood, or those who are thinking about it and want more facts,  will want to mark March 5 on the calendar.

That’s when a Wood Heating Workshop is planned, during the Canadian Home Builders Association Home and Renovation Show at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre.

Speaker Reid Harvey will talk about wood heat options, proper burn techniques and provide pointers for planning an effective wood heat system.

Other topics for discussion include purchasing and preparing firewood, loading a firebox, chimney pointers, appliance maintenance and EPA and emission ratings.

An outdoor burn display will be set up to demonstrate old versus new stove technology, where there will also be time to talk one on one with the instructor.

The event takes place March 5, with the outdoor burn display operating between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

The Wood Heating Workshop takes place from 1 to 3:30 p.m., all at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre.

The workshop is free with admission to the Home and Reno Show.
