KAMLOOPS - Fire crews raced to the North Shore last night when a wood dryer caught fire.
Monday, May 28, Kenny Girous was working his shift as the supervisor at Gerico Forest Products when he and his coworkers smelled smoke.
“We smelt it then we saw the fire in the dryer,” Girous says.
He recalls the fire crews were on site within five to seven minutes of receiving their call for help. It was just after 5 p.m.
Kamloops Fire Rescue Platoon Capt. Darryl Cooper says fire crews were able to extinguish the fire before it could cause any structure damage. No one was injured.
Cooper counted 14 crews and four fire trucks that responded to the call.
The section of Athabasca Street near the building was temporarily blocked off.
