OLIVER - A crash near Oliver has taken the life of a 19-year-old woman.

Just past 6 p.m. February 19 Oliver and South Okanagan RCMP rushed to the scene of an accident on Hwy 97 at Road 13 near Oliver. A woman from Oliver was the sole occupant of a Ford pickup truck that crashed into a utility pole. The truck burst into flames on impact.

The woman was rushed to South Okanagan General Hospital by ambulance but died upon arrival.

Mounties say road and weather conditions were good with roads bare and dry, but alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

Power was knocked out to neighbouring homes and Fortis B.C. was on scene to restore power once police completed their investigation.

The identity of the woman has not been released and next of kin have been notified. The B.C. Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate.
