An altercation at a Vernon skatepark over the weekend resulted in the arrest of an 18-year-old Vernon woman.

Police responded to a disturbance at the skateboard park in Polson Park in the 2600 block of Highway 6 in Vernon on Sunday, Oct. 4 around 7:30 p.m. to find a teenager suffering lacerations as a result of an assault.

Media relations officer Const. Chris Terleski says several youth were in the vicinity at the time of the assault.

“Police interviewed a number of witnesses and believe two individuals were involved in some type of physical altercation which resulted in the victim being seriously injured,” Terleski said in a press release issued this afternoon, Oct. 5.

Police located the assault weapon and the victim was transported to hospital by B.C. Ambulance personnel for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. RCMP do not say what kind of weapon.

Both parties knew each other.

The suspect, an 18-year-old Vernon woman, was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.
