Woman arrested for setting downtown dumpster fires

KAMLOOPS - A woman is in custody this morning after four dumpster fires were sparked in downtown Kamloops this morning.

Kamloops RCMP and Kamloops Fire and Rescue responded to the incidents within an hour of each other beginning at 6:30 a.m.

Three fires were reported all within minutes of each other within in a close proximity. Two fires were reported in the 500 block of Victoria Street, another a couple blocks away on St. Paul Street.

The fourth dumpster fire was reported in the 400 block of Columbia Street at 7:20 a.m.

A 31-year-old Kamloops woman, described by witnesses, was taken into custody around 7:30 a.m.

The woman has a criminal record involving theft and RCMP are recommending four counts of arson to the Crown.
