Original Publication Date January 31, 2015 - 9:30 AM

VICTORIA - A 26-year-old mother has died after she and her seven-month-old son were pulled from a Vancouver Island river.

Comox Valley RCMP say the woman did not survive after being pulled from the Puntledge River on Friday, despite the efforts of multiple rescue and medical workers.

Her son was airlifted to B.C. Children's Hospital in Vancouver where he remains in critical condition.

Sgt. Kevin Mazur says there is no indication that anyone else was involved in the pair entering the water.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen the pair near or in the water before 2:40 p.m. Friday to come forward.

The B.C. Coroners Service has assumed a lead role in the investigation with assistance from the Comox Valley RCMP.
