Kamloops, BC—Central Canada one week: Vancouver Island the next. That’s been the travel itinerary for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s basketball team.

With one week to go before they open their 2016-17 Canada West regular season, Scott Reeves is taking his team to Victoria for a pair of exhibition games.  On Friday (Oct 28), the ‘Pack will tangle with the University of Alberta Pandas.  That will be followed one night later (Saturday, Oct 29) with an encounter with the defending national champion University of Saskatchewan Huskies.

The ‘Pack are coming off a 1-2 record at a tournament at Carleton University in Ottawa which featured three of the top teams in the country.  “Last weekend was a good opportunity to play very good competition and this weekend will prove to be the same”, Reeves states. “You want to play the best teams possible in order to prepare for conference and we have done that."

The coach added that his team showed tremendous character and growth after losing the first two games of that tournament and coming back to beat Concordia on Sunday (Oct 23). “Our team defense was better and we ran our offense more efficiently,” he explained.  After stating earlier in the exhibition season that his team’s transition and execution needs work, the coach believes that both aspects are coming together but will take some time because his crew is very young.”

When asked if his starting five has been sorted out yet, Reeves replied, “I have always determined who plays based on our match-ups. I don’t look at starters and bench as much as what gives us the best chance to win with the match-ups we have.”

The ‘Pack will begin their Canada West regular season on Friday, November 4th on the Warner Rentals Court at the Tournament Capital Centre. The opponents that weekend will be the always tough University of British Columbia Thunderbirds. Tip off on Friday will be 6pm. That weekend is a “McDonalds Weekend” and that night will be Country themed, with CKJC “Country 103” being the sponsor.
