WolfPack split Saturday doubleheader against University of Calgary

Calgary, AB – After winning the first game of the weekend against the University of Calgary Dinos on Friday, the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Baseball team was back in action on Saturday. They were continuing their weekend series against the Dinos. The two teams split the doubleheader on Saturday. The ‘Pack lost game one 10-3 but got back on track, winning the second game 6-3.

Scott Wood (Stratford, ONT) started game one on the mound for TRU. He got the loss as he threw seven innings, allowing seven runs (all earned) on 12 hits and three walks. He struck out six Dino batters. Qwinn Nesplak (White Rock, BC) allowed three runs in the inning he pitched. The runs came in on three hits and one walk.

Vance Fode (Bow Island, AB) continued his hot rookie season by driving in another two runs on a single. He finished 1-5 with the two RBIs. He now has 13 on the year. Isiah McDonald (Grand Forks, BC) drove in the ‘Pack’s other run. He finished 2-4 with a run scored and a walk. Josh Hillis (Calgary, AB) and Blayne Halland (Kamloops, BC) each went 1-4 with a run scored and a walk. Malik James (Toronto, ONT) went 2-5. Ethan Mohan (Calgary, AB) went 1-2 with two walks. Nick Bolt (Brooks, AB) also had a base hit.

But the WolfPack bounced back after falling in game one, winning game two by a great effort on the mound by Dillon Ferguson (Kirkland, WA). He got the win as he went eight innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits and three walks. He struck out ten batters. Duncan Elgert (Calgary, AB) got the save in the ninth.

Malik James and Connor McKenzie (Kamloops, BC) each went 2-4 in game two. Malik drove in three runs, while McKenzie drove in two and scored a run. Taylor Van Ham (Medicine Hat, AB) also collected a RBI on a groundout. Ethan Mohan went 1-2 with three walks and three runs scored. Adam Filmon (Winnipeg, MB) had two hits and scored a run. Josh Snider (Moses Lake, WA) and Malcolm Upton (Maple Ridge, BC) each collected a hit.

The WolfPack are now 8-6 on the season. They will play one game against the Dinos tomorrow to finish their weekend series. Game time is at 11am at Foothills Stadium.
