The exhibition campaign comes to a close Thursday (Oct 27) for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s basketball team.

The ‘Pack will be heading to UBC to play an exhibition game against Lakehead University of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Thompson Rivers was hoping to also get a preseason game in Seattle, Washington but that fell through.

Thompson Rivers is 1-2 going into their battle with Lakehead.

“It’s still early in the season and it’s a cliché but we are just trying to get better, “states WolfPack head coach Scott Clark. “ You are trying to make improvements in little areas.  That is what we are focusing on. If this were golf and shoot 100. You go out the next few times to whittle it down to 90. You have to work on the little things to be a good golfer. That is kind of like what it is for us right now. We are trying to perfect a bunch of little things to be a good basketball team.”

Clark says while the team isn’t where he wants it to be at this point he sees a lot of good things. “You are always hoping to be a bit better. I think there are standards and expectations that you try to present to the athlete’s year in and year out.  When you do meet them, you elevate those standards and expectations. You are always chasing that a little bit.  I would like to be better than we are in certain areas but that is the nature of coaching in basketball. You are trying to address those short comings to be a bit better.”

After the game, the WolfPack return home to prepare for the start of their 2016-17 Canada West regular season on Friday, November 4th. They will take to the Warner Rentals court at the Tournament Capital Centre to face the team they beat to win the Canada West silver medal: the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds.  Tip off will be 8 pm that night. It is a “McDonalds sponsored” weekend with Friday night being co-sponsored by CJKC-FM “Country 103” and will have country themed events.
