Wintery weather returning to the Okanagan this week

KELOWNA - Colder temperatures are returning to the Okanagan, but some sun is coming with them.

Today, Jan. 30, is forecast to be the warmest day of the week, according to Environment Canada, expected to reach a high of 3 Celsius in the region. We’ll see mostly cloudy skies, with some sun in the northern areas. There’s a chance of flurries throughout the Okanagan and wind coming through at 20 kilometres per hour in the Central and South Okanagan. Tonight temperatures will drop to -8 C with partly cloudy skies around Vernon and Kelowna, while Penticton and surrounding areas will be around -3 C with cloudy skies and a 60 per cent chance of flurries.

Tomorrow the sun will be more prominent, as daytime highs sit around 0 C, with Penticton sitting just above freezing and Vernon just below. Tuesday night temperatures will sit a little colder than typical, as the whole valley drops to -11 C.

It will be fairly sunny by midweek, with Wednesday sitting around -2 C during the day and -13 C that night, followed by Thursday hitting a high of -4 C, with a sun and clouds. Thursday night will drop to -11 C, again.

Friday we’ll see the return of cloudy skies bringing a 60 per cent chance of flurries and a high of -3 C.

The weekend is currently forecast to be the same, with a chance of flurries and temperatures around -2 C during the day and -5 C in the evening.

Normal tempertures for this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of 1 C and lows of -5 C.
