WEST KELOWNA - An apparent drunk driver led police on a wheels-off chase from Peachland to West Kelowna last night.

An off duty RCMP officer noticed the brown Kia Sorrento on Highway 97 travelling northbound from Summerland at about 5:45, December 15. The car was moving all over the road and appeared to be losing a tire. The vehicle was intercepted at Trepanier Bench Road by uniformed West Kelowna officers who tried to get the Summerland woman, 49, to stop.

She continued driving towards West Kelowna and Mounties saw her drive into the ditch several times until the SUV lost the rear tire and rim, spinning out of control near Brown Road.

The woman was taken into custody and transported to the Kelowna detachment were breath samples revealed she was in excess of four times over the legal limit.

The woman was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition, and administrative driving prohibition and her vehicle was impounded. She faces potential charges of impaired driving, driving while over .08 and flight from police. She was released on a promise to appera for court at a later date.
