West Kelowna Warriors score scary win in Salmon Arm

SALMON ARM - The West Kelowna Warriors edged the Silverback 4-3 in double overtime at the Shaw Centre in Salmon Arm on Halloween night.

The Warriors would strike first before fans were in their seats when Michael Buonincontri put home the puck in front after good work from Jason Cotton and Liam Blackburn.

Josh Bly would get his first in the BCHL at 7:27 of the first period after joining the rush late and snapping one past Angus Redmond to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead.

There would be no scoring in the middle frame as both teams would block a lot of shots and not enable much to get through. Blackburn had the best opportunity to score as his open net was taken away by a deflection from defenseman Bennett Morrison of the ‘Backs.

Salmon Arm would shock the Warriors early on the third period as they scored three goals in 1:27 to go ahead 3-2.

Chase Priskie had the first goal, followed by Shane Danyluk just 19 seconds later. Karl El-Mir would score on a break-away to take the lead.

Bly, who had one of his best games of the season, scored at 10:32 to tie it up again, as this one would head to OT.

With ten seconds left in the first OT, Jason Cotton took a penalty, but a great kill from the Warriors would lead to 3-on-3 only lasting just over two minutes.

Jonathan Desbiens was able to start a 2-on-1 in the final minute, and would set up Andrew Johnson who slammed one up under the crossbar and stuck it along the back bar and the mesh to give the Warriors a 4-3 win.

The Warriors will play “Fight Cancer” night Saturday against the same Silverbacks, in West Kelowna at 7 pm. Come on out, bid on your favorite players pink jersey, and take home a great Warriors souvenir.
