West Kelowna teen, 15, drowns after early morning dive into Okanagan Lake

WEST KELOWNA - A 15-year-old West Kelowna teen drowned in Okanagan Lake early this morning after jumping from a public dock.

Police say they were called to the Ferry Wharf structure in Gellatly Bay around 1 a.m. Saturday when he didn't resurface, RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey said in a release.

Emergency responders found the boy and pulled him from the water, tried CPR and rushed him to hospital.

“Despite the best efforts of everyone involved, the 15-year-old boy could not be resuscitated and passed away in hospital,” O’Donaghey said. “RCMP Victim Services are providing support to the witnesses and the victim’s family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the boy’s loved ones during this difficult time.”

His name is not being released.

The B.C. Coroner's Service is also investigating the death.
