WEST KELOWNA – Police arrested an Edmonton man over the weekend who was found inside a West Kelowna business while his getaway driver was asleep in their vehicle.

RCMP say at around 2 a.m. July 1, officers were called to the 3400 block of Louie Drive with a report of a commercial break-in.

Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says police were alerted to the break-in by the alarm. When officers arrived they could hear the suspect was still inside the store.

“West Kelowna RCMP officers set up a perimeter around the building and, with the assistance of a police canine unit from the Kelowna Regional RCMP, created a diversion which ultimately caused the suspect to flee through the holes he allegedly made in the interior walls between businesses in an effort to avoid capture,” O’Donaghey says in the release.

A 53-year-old Edmonton man was taken into custody.

“Police later located and identified his alleged accomplice, an Edmonton woman, fast asleep inside a vehicle in a nearby parking lot,” O’Donaghey says. “She was questioned and later released, without charge at this time.”
