WEST KELOWNA - One person was sent to hospital and the Best Western Hotel was evacuated yesterday after a dangerous combination of pool chemicals was accidentally mixed.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue's Brent Watson says they were called to the hotel around 4 p.m. yesterday and called in the hazardous materials team. They found a solution of acid and chlorine in a bucket that was giving off noxious fumes. They safely disposed of but not before the employee who mixed it was taken to Kelowna General Hospital after inhaling the gases. Several other employees had mild symptoms but did not require the hospital.

The hotel on Carrington Road was evacuated overnight and guests had to find new accommodation.
