WEST KELOWNA - An allegedly impaired driver has been arrested in West Kelowna after police say he damaged several properties and fled the scene on three wheels.

On Feb. 3 at 10:55 p.m., West Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of a hit and run with significant damage to properties in the 3300 block of Old Okanagan Highway.

In a news release, police say they learned that the pickup truck, which was southbound on the highway at the time, left the road and struck fences and trees on multiple properties.

The 31-year-old driver failed to stop at the scene of the crash, fled the area on only three wheels and was seen dragging a large portion of a gate under the vehicle.

Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey says RCMP caught up with the badly damaged suspect vehicle stopped in the Shannon Lake area. The driver showed symptoms of alcohol impairment and was arrested without incident.

The driver's breath samples failed. He was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and ticketed under the motor vehicle act for failing to remain at the scene of a collision. His vehicle was towed to be impounded for 30 days.

RCMP is asking anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the West Kelowna detachment at 250-768-2880.
