Weekly Volunteer Highlights for July 29 to Aug. 5, 2016:

Rotary Club of Kamloops Daybreak
Kamloops Ribfest Volunteers - On Thurs. Aug. 4 to Mon. Aug. 8 at Riverside Park, professional ribbers from Canada and the U.S. are coming to show off their cooking styles and their delicious rib recipes with entertainment and more. This is a major fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Kamloops Daybreak, who reinvests this money back into our community through youth and seniors initiatives. Kamloops Dragon Boat Club
Dragon Boat Festival Volunteers - The Kamloops Dragon Boat Festival is looking for volunteers to help out with this year's festival on Aug. 6! Therapeutic Riding Association
Kids Camp Volunteers- Kamloops Therapeutic Riding Association are needing assistance for their 4 week summer kids' (5-13 yrs olds) camps that run Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am-3:30pm. Dates are: July 12-14, August 2-4, August 9-11 and August 16-18. We are needing volunteers who have horse experience along with those who are comfortable around horses to help out with lessons and stable management. There are also positions in the crafts center. Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation
CIBC Run for the Cure Organizing Committee – Interested in being part of team, raising much needed funds for breast cancer research? Join us on the Kamloops Run Committee and have fun putting your skills to work. It takes a community to put on an event from helping out on Run Day to project managing the committee. Positions: Co-Run Director, Fundraising; Co-Run Director, Logistics; Registration Coordinator; Route Coordinator; Volunteer Coordinator. 19+ to volunteer. Co-Run Directors will lead a committee of new and returning coordinators who meet monthly, and then bi-weekly in Sept. The Gleaning Abundance Program
Harvest Volunteers - The Gleaning Abundance Program is looking for individual & group volunteers to help harvest excess fruit from residential trees. The volunteers will share in the harvest with the other shares going to the homeowners and various non-profits. 18+ to volunteer, and family volunteering friendly. Harvest Season is June to November, 7 Days a week, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call (250) 851-6111.

People In Motion
Youth Club - Volunteers will be involved in supporting People in Motion in a variety of recreational activities such as going to the movies, Kamloops Blazers games, pizza nights, laser tag etc. 16+ to volunteer. (250) 376-7878.

BIG Little Science Centre
BLSC Volunteers - The BLSC is dedicated to developing a passion for the sciences in our community for kids of all ages through interactive displays, demos, and science shows. Many positions: visitor services, cashiers, room supervisors, science show demonstrators, display & science show designers/builders, marketing & business planners, and directors. 16+ to volunteer. Kamloops Seniors Village
Recreation Volunteers - Volunteers are needed to help with many different programs including: cards, arts & crafts, board games, bingo, puzzles, church services, special events, pub nights, garden walks, social outings, adaptive bowling, and teas. Help is needed for 1-to-1 visits, a men's social group, our intergenerational program, and portering our residents to and from the different activities. We are also looking for musicians to entertain our residents, and volunteers to assist with our beauty cart (nails, & make-up, etc.). 16+ to volunteer. For more information, call (250) 571-1806.

Restore Volunteers - The Habitat for Humanity ReStore is looking for volunteers to help in our retail outlet, organizing, stocking shelves, cleaning, assisting customers with items being dropped off and purchased and cashier duties. 14+ to volunteer. BC Wildlife Park
Family Farm Assistants - The BC Wildlife Park is in need of volunteers to assist our zookeepers in maintaining a safe environment at our Home Hardware Family Farm. The volunteers will be interacting with the park guests as they interact with our goats! The Volunteers will also be keeping the barn area clean. 16+ to volunteer and family volunteering friendly (Ages 11 - 13 can volunteer with a parent). Elizabeth Fry Society
Volunteer Court Workers - Volunteers assist clients in need of legal counsel, and to gain knowledge of community resources. This position requires the volunteers to commit to working with a wide variety of people in emotional circumstances. The volunteers must be mature, nonjudgemental, flexible, able to work under pressure, and have a good command of English language, both speaking and writing. 19+ to volunteer. Special Olympics
Swim Team Volunteers - The volunteers will assist developmentally challenged individuals to develop competitive swimming skills. Time & Location: Tuesdays from 6:15pm to 7:30pm at the YMCA/YWCA 400 Battle Street. 16+ to volunteer. For more information call (250) 573-1206.

Royal Inland Hospital
Cancer Clinic Support Volunteers - Looking for volunteers to support cancer patients by greeting them before treatments, provide refreshments, snacks, warm blankets, and converse with them. They are looking for the volunteers to be able to commit to at least a 4 hour shift. 18+ to volunteer. For more information call (250) 314-2313.

YMCA/YWCA
Grounds Maintenance - Volunteers will assist the staff with yard and lawn maintenance, weeding, mowing, pruning, and touch up painting, etc. The areas include 400 Battle street and the adjoining program houses and parking areas.
