PENTICTON - Penticton RCMP conducted a one day roadside blitz this weekend as an increased roadside enforcement program for the holidays gets underway.

Police spokesperson Cpl. Ted Manchulenko says the effort resulted in between 700 and 800 vehicles checked at 10 rotating checkpoints throughout the city.

Six impaired driving investigations are being conducted as a result of the checks.

Manchulenko says nine officers participated in Saturday’s enforcement.

“It’s encouraging to see people are getting the message about impaired driving and having designated drivers or alternate means of transportation after the Christmas party they are attending,” says Manchulenko, noting the reduced number of impaired charges.

“We’ll still continue to enforce through random check stops, impaired driving through the holiday season,” he says.
