Vancouver sets record for longest fall dry spell but forecasters say end in sight

VANCOUVER - Usually soggy, blustery fall weather across Metro Vancouver has been replaced by a record-breaking dry spell through October and November.

Environment and Climate Change Canada says the Vancouver area broke a record Thursday as it marked 13 consecutive days without rain.

The weather office says the longest previous dry stretch was set 63 years ago, when no rain fell from Nov. 19 - 30, 1956.

Sunshine and high clouds Friday marked the start of Vancouver's 14th dry fall day, but forecasters predicted the record would be broken before midnight.

Showers have been forecast to continue well into next week.

November is typically one of Vancouver's wettest months, with an average of about 200 millimetres of precipitation.
