CALGARY - Some people in Calgary are banding together to name insurance companies that have rejected their claims for sewer backup damage following recent flooding.

Residents of the Elbow Park neighbourhood say some insurance companies are approving claims while others are not — despite similar policy wording.

Some people whose claims have been rejected have put up signs on their property chiding the companies for not stepping up to help them.

Insurers that have been singled out for denying claims for sewer backup include AMA Insurance and RBC Insurance.

The companies could not immediately be reached for comment.

The Insurance Bureau of Canada says every policy and house situation is different and such disputes are between the policy holders and their insurance company.
