Man who spent hours in chilly Victoria harbour is rescued, then arrested

VICTORIA - A three-hour search for a man who was pulled out of Victoria's Inner Harbour on Wednesday night ended in his arrest.

Police were called to a report of a person in distress in the water near a city bridge.

The department says many officers took part in the search and one was treated for exposure after going into the cold water to look under docks.

Victoria's fire department, the coast guard, the Department of Fisheries and the Saanich police dive team all helped look for the man.

Police say the dive team found the man, who was taken to hospital suffering from hypothermia.

When police checked his identification, they learned he was wanted for forcible entry, assaulting a police officer and uttering threats, and he now faces a court date.
