KELOWNA – A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Brazilian orchard worker released on bail after allegedly trying to break into a West Kelowna home and assaulting the homeowner this summer.
Naiara Defelippe Guerra, 24, was working and living at a farm on Scharf Road Aug. 6 when police were called shortly before noon.
Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says a naked woman tried to kick down the front door of a nearby house.
"The victim confronted the woman and following a brief struggle, the suspect fled to the rear of the woman’s property," Moskaluk said in a release.
Guerra was found hiding in a shed, arrested and charged with mischief under $5,000, assault and being unlawfully in a house.
She was released on bail Aug. 14 but a charge of breach of conditions was added two days later and on Monday, Sept. 25 a Kelowna Justice of the Peace issued a warrant for her arrest.
Living conditions at agricultural work camps, like the one on Scharf Road, are the subject of a formal motion passed Aug. 22 by West Kelowna council.
It directs staff to investigate conditions and prepare a report on possible improvements.
