Volunteer Highlights for March 5 to 12

Habitat for Humanity Kamloops
Special Event Coordinators - Are you in need of event planning experience, or just enjoy planning events? We are looking for people to help us organize, plan, and hold our Key Ceremony, and Groundbreaking Ceremony for our Habitat for Humanity Kamloops 2014 - 2015 Builds. 18+ to volunteer. Optimist Club of Kamloops
Board of Directors and Club Members - The Optimist Club helps fund youth (including disabled, sick, underprivileged, or at risk youth) to help them to develop to their full potential. We are now forming our Executive Council Board Members and Regular Club Members. Positions include: Two Vice-Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, Project and Event Coordinators, Fundraisers, Directors for the Board, and regular members-at-large. Previous board experience is an asset but not necessary. Professionally employed individuals or TRU students are preferred. 20+ to volunteer. 250-572-4653.

Elizabeth Fry Society
Resource Development Committee Member - The volunteers will work with the Executive Director and the Fund Developer to develop and implement the Society’s fund development plans. This will include assisting in the planning of the 3rd Annual Hearts for Homes Gala in November. All the members will need to attend the regularly scheduled meetings once a month. Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation
CIBC Run for the Cure Organizing Committee - Be part of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure organizing committee and a dynamic team raising funds towards breast cancer research in your local community from Mar. to Nov. 2015 (Event takes place on Sun. Alzheimer Society of B.C.
Support Group Facilitators (Chase, Ashcroft, & Merritt) - Are you interested in making a real and profound difference in the lives of people caring for a family member with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia? The support group facilitators organize caregiver meetings, communicating with the Alzheimer Society of B.C. staff, maintain group attendance records and use Alzheimer Society materials to provide information to the groups. The objective of our groups is to strengthen the coping abilities of caregivers and reduce the impact of dementia on the community. *Please note that we're looking for facilitators in Chase, Ashcroft, and Merritt at this time. Developing World Connections
Administrative Assistant Volunteers - The volunteers will assist with various administrative tasks including database and spreadsheet entries, updating forms, uploading website content, organizing digital photos, and receptionist duties. The volunteers must have computer experience including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Publisher), and have a good command of English. 18+ to volunteer. In exchange of a 1 year commitment of at least 8 hours per week the volunteer will receive an all expense paid DWC trip. 250-434-2524 Ext: 19.

People In Motion
Volunteer Tax Preparer - People In Motion is participating in the Community Volunteer Income Tax Clinic (CVITP), and are looking for volunteers to complete simple tax returns for people with disabilities and low incomes. The volunteers will pick up the tax returns, and they can be completed either at their home or in our office, they will e-file the returns for the clients, and mileage is paid. 19+ to volunteer. 250-376-7878.

Big Brothers Sisters of Kamloops
Mentors - Now recruiting to link caring and capable adult volunteer mentors with 100 youth, 6-15 years old, on a waiting list. Enjoy the activities you're interested in and share them with a young person. Men in particular are needed for the many boys unmatched! 18+ to volunteer. 250-374-6134.

Kamloops Seniors Village
Recreation Volunteers - Volunteers are needed to help with many different programs including: cards, arts & crafts, board games, bingo, puzzles, church services, special events, social outings, adaptive bowling, bus outings, and teas. Help is needed for 1-to-1 visits, a men's social group, our intergenerational program, and portering our residents to and from the different activities. We are also looking for musicians to entertain our residents, and volunteers to assist with our beauty cart (nails & make-up, etc.). Additionally, we are in need of computer literate volunteers to assist the seniors with using computers. 16+ to volunteer. 250-571-1806 or 250-571-1800.

Interior Community Services
Volunteer Mover - Volunteers will assist in moving, and transporting items to/from our facilities within the Kamloops area. Volunteers must have their own truck, be able to physically lift heavy items, have a valid driver’s license, and a clear driver’s abstract. Sports Mentor - The Sports Mentorship Program is aimed at sports enthusiasts interested in mentoring a child or youth who shares a mutual passion for sport. The pair will meet once every two weeks and participate in activities focused around sports, whether it be playing, practicing or watching. This is a great opportunity to make a real difference in the life of a child in your community! 18+ to volunteer. 250-374-6134 or 1-877-222-8099.

Interior Community Services
Childminding Volunteer – Volunteers will help watch children while their parents are in learning sessions Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The volunteers assist the staff in children’s area to watch the children, and be an extra set of eyes and ears. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kamloops
In-School Mentoring (Big Buddy) - The volunteers will be a positive role model and have a desire to make a difference in the life of a child. Volunteers will spend one hour a week with a child (Your Little Buddy) in their elementary school, playing games, making arts and crafts, and just being friends for the duration of the school year. 15+ to volunteer. 250-374-6134.
