Vernon radiothon raises much needed money for newborns and their moms

The Have a Heart Radiothon took place outside the Village Green Mall, April 25.

VERNON - The 16th annual Have a Heart Radiothon raised $57,060 for the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation April 26.

The event saw Sun-FM radio DJs camped out in front of the Village Green Mall from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. to raise funds for VJH Foundation to support maternal child care by purchasing new equipment that supports newborn babies and their moms.

The money will go towards replacing baby bassinets which, are currently over 20-years-old; a handheld meter that decreases the amount of blood draws the newborn receive, called a Transcutaneous Bilimeter; and a newborn isolette, which provides thermoregulation for babies that need additional support.

In 2018 the event raised over $93,000 and the Sun FM Room for pediatric oncology was created at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
