Vernon police, school district warn about pre-grad parties

VERNON - Talk to your high schoolers about the dangers of pre-grad parties, Vernon RCMP and the school district are urging parents.

In what has become an annual ritual, school and police officials are asking parents to have those “difficult conversations” with their teens entering grade 12 about attending, RCMP media officer Const. Kelly Brett said in a press release.

"Starting off your school year with regret, potential loss of friends or criminal charges is not the way you want to start your final year,” Brett said.

Brett added the parties often do damage to rural and environmentally sensitive areas.

School District 23 superintendent Joe Rogers warned in the release that party goers will suffer more than a hangover if they show up for school “in an altered state.”

Brett warns the RCMP come equipped with years of knowledge and tips from parents about possible party locations and will be actively patrolling them.
