Vernon man in custody after allegedly assaulting police officers

VERNON - One man is in custody after Vernon RCMP responded to reports of a disturbance yesterday evening.

Officers were called to a home in the 4200 block of Alexis Park Drive at around 5 p.m. yesterday, March 18, according to an RCMP media release. When police arrived, the suspect was running north on Alexis Park Drive away from his residence.

Police attempted to arrest him however while doing so the man allegedly assaulted officers, uttered threats and attempted to damage a police vehicle.

"The male was quickly taken into custody by officers and transported to the RCMP detachment where he remains in custody," Vernon RCMP spokesperson Const. Kelly Brett says in the release.

The 31-year-old Vernon man is facing possible charges of assault, assaulting a peace officer, uttering threats and mischief.

He is scheduled to appear in court today, March 19.
