Vernon man arrested after driving stolen truck through Ellison park

VERNON - A Vernon man was tracked by a police air unit and arrested after he attempted to drive a stolen truck on a trail in Ellison Provincial Park and got it stuck.

A Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release says police were notified by local residents just before 4 p.m. April 18 that a vehicle appeared to be stuck on a trail in Ellison Provincial Park. As the park has no roads an RCMP Air Services unit was dispatched to help police officers on the ground locate the vehicle. Police from the air located the truck attempting to drive out of the park, but the vehicle got stuck and the driver fled by foot. The driver was tracked from the air by police and located by officers on the ground and arrested without incident.

RCMP say the truck had been stolen in Kelowna.

The man is currently being held in custody and is facing charges of possession of stolen property and breach of conditions.
