VERNON - Two people were taken to hospital after an early morning crash in Vernon.

The collision happened just before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Highway 6 and Pottery Road, Brent Bond, with Vernon Fire and Rescue Services, says.

Two vehicles were involved, and a photo supplied by the fire department shows heavy damage.

Rescue crews had to remove the door of the van in order to free the driver, who was trapped inside.

RCMP say in a media release the 32-year-old man driving the pickup and the 42-year-old man behind the wheel of the van were both taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. They were the sole occupants of the vehicles.

What caused the crash remains under investigation by the RCMP, Bond says. Police aren't releasing any results of the ongoing investigation and won't say if any charges are being considered.

While slippery road conditions contributed to a number of crashes in the area lately, Bond says the roads at the scene were dry, bare and in good condition.

The highway was reduced to one lane in both directions while crews attended the scene.
