CHESTER, Pa. - Authorities say a student at Widener University in suburban Philadelphia has been shot and it warned students to remain indoors until further notice.

The school said on its website that the student was shot near the Schwartz Athletic Center on the school's campus around 9 p.m. Monday. The victim's condition wasn't known. The university said the student's family was with him.

Widener is a private, co-ed university located in Chester, Pennsylvania located about 15 miles southwest of Philadelphia.

NeighbourhoodScout.com, a real estate website, has ranked Chester as one of the most dangerous cities in the U.S. The university also has three other campuses in Harrisburg, Exton and Wilmington, Delaware.
