PASADENA, Calif. - Stewie likes science.

Seth MacFarlane, creator of "Family Guy" and voice of Stewie on the animated Fox show, is bringing his love of space exploration to television. He's the executive producer of "Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey," a 13-part series that will debut March 9 on Fox. It will also air on the National Geographic Channel.

Best known for his profane animated series and Oscar-hosting duties last year, MacFarlane's head has been in the stars since he first saw Carl Sagan's original "Cosmos: A Personal Voyage" as a youngster.

MacFarlane suggested to "Cosmos" host Neil deGrasse Tyson that the show should be pitched to Fox to garner a broader audience.

"I was pleasantly greeted with enthusiasm, and I didn't have to stop doing Stewie or anything," MacFarlane told the Television Critics Association on Monday.
