Donald Trump Jr. to speak to House panel in Russia probe

November 29, 2017 - 12:26 PM

WASHINGTON - The House intelligence committee will interview Donald Trump Jr. next week as part of its investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, according to two people familiar with the meeting.

The Dec. 6 interview with President Donald Trump's eldest son comes as both the House and Senate intelligence committees are investigating a meeting that Trump Jr. and other Trump campaign officials held with Russians in 2016. They are also interested in messages he exchanged during the campaign with WikiLeaks, the website that leaked emails from top Democratic officials during the campaign.

The private interview will be held Dec. 6. The people familiar with the interview were not authorized to speak publicly and spoke only on condition of anonymity.

The Senate intelligence committee also hopes to interview Trump Jr. before the end of the year, according to a spokeswoman for the committee's chairman, Republican Sen. Richard Burr. Burr has said he wants to try to finish all of the committee's interviews this year.

The House intelligence committee is interviewing Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Thursday. Lawmakers have expressed interest in Sessions' contacts with Russians during the campaign, and also his knowledge of other Trump campaign officials' contacts.

Also Thursday, the House panel will talk to Erik Prince, the founder of the security firm Blackwater and a supporter of Trump's campaign. The Washington Post reported earlier this year that Prince was involved in a secret meeting in the United Arab Emirates in January with a Russian close to President Vladimir Putin.
