WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. - The Latest on severe storms in Connecticut (all times local):

11 p.m.

Powerful storms have lashed the Northeast with torrential rain and marble-sized hail, leaving at least two people dead and hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses without power.

A man was killed in Connecticut Tuesday afternoon when a tree fell on his truck. And in New York, an 11-year-old girl died when a tree toppled onto the car she was in.

The storms downed trees and power lines across the region. Roads in many towns were impassible and some schools cancelled classes on Wednesday due to the damage.

In New York City, the Metro-North Railroad suspended some service because of downed trees on the tracks. Pictures posted on social media showed concourses at Grand Central Terminal jammed with stranded passengers.

In New Jersey, several lighting strikes led to structure fires.

Severe storms have pounded Connecticut, leaving at least one person dead and more than 100,000 homes and business without power.

Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton says a man was killed when a tree fell on his truck Tuesday afternoon. Boughton also says a teenager suffered serious injuries when he was hit by the roof of a dugout on a baseball field.

The storms downed trees and power lines across the state. More than 120,000 customers lost power and roads in many towns were impassible.

The Brookfield Police Department said on its Facebook page that First Selectman Steve Dunn had "declared a town disaster." Schools in Brookfield, Danbury and other towns announced they would be closed on Wednesday due to storm damage.

Bradley International Airport briefly grounded flights and Metro North temporarily suspended some train service.

Travellers leaving Bradley International Airport might need to wait longer for flights.

The airport announced Tuesday afternoon that for safety reasons, flight operations have been suspended. Shortly after, the airport said that flight operations are attempting to return to normal, but there are currently a few delays. The National Weather Service has issued tornado warnings for Hartford, Litchfield, Fairfield, Middlesex, and New Haven counties, calling the storm "dangerous."

Metro North has suspended service along some lines, including New Haven and Hudson. Downed trees have been reported in Burlington.

According to Eversource, there are over 13,000 outages reported across the state. A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for part of Hartford County.
