Senate confirms judges, nominees ahead of McCain services

WASHINGTON - The Senate has confirmed seven district court judges and several administrative nominees as it whisks through its workload ahead of memorial services for Sen. John McCain.

Senate leaders reached agreement Tuesday to vote on the nominees from President Donald Trump. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell kept senators in a rare August session to approve the nominees.

Among those confirmed were Richard Clarida as vice chairman of the Federal Reserve's Board of Governors; Joseph H. Hunt as an assistant attorney general; and Isabel Marie Keenan Patelunas as an assistant secretary at Treasury for intelligence and analysis.

Senators also confirmed district court judges in Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Minnesota.

Services for McCain are set to begin Wednesday in Arizona and continue later in the week in Washington.
