Police: 2 teenagers charged in fatal racing wreck

GAINESVILLE, Ga. - Authorities say two teenagers have been charged in connection with a street-racing wreck in Georgia that killed another teenager.

Gainesville police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook told news outlets that 18-year-old Brandon Eduardo Sanchez and a 17-year-old were racing Monday around 11:45 p.m. when Sanchez lost control of the vehicle, crossed the median and hit a tree.

Sanchez's passenger, another 17-year-old boy, died in the wreck and was pronounced dead at the scene. A Hall County Schools news release says the victim was a student at West Hall High School.

Authorities learned Sanchez only had a learner's permit. He was charged with first-degree vehicular homicide. The teenage driver of the other vehicle was charged with being a party to first-degree vehicular homicide.

It's unclear if the two have lawyers.
