A man accused of shooting and wounding two police officers in the state's largest city is facing two counts of attempted capital murder.

Thirty-two-year-old Ian MacPherson, of Manchester, was arrested early Friday after an intense three-hour pursuit. Authorities say he shot Officers Ryan Hardy and Matthew O'Connor.

Police say Hardy approached MacPherson just after 2 a.m. Friday because he matched the description of a suspect in an armed robbery of a gas station the night before. They say MacPherson shot Hardy in the face and torso. He is in stable condition.

Authorities say a half hour later, MacPherson shot O'Connor in the leg. He's out of the hospital.

MacPherson likely will be arraigned on Monday.
