Original Publication Date May 05, 2016 - 9:25 PM

MILWAUKEE - Police say officers fatally shot a robbery suspect after he shot and wounded a Milwaukee police officer.

Police Chief Ed Flynn said late Thursday that three officers saw a masked man leaving an auto parts store where a robbery had been reported and chased him on foot. The suspect fired at the officers, striking one in the chest. Flynn says he was saved by his body armour.

Flynn says the suspect fired again and two officers returned fire, striking the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police identified the suspect Friday as 38-year-old Burt Johnson, a convicted felon.

Police said Friday that the 38-year-old officer was treated for contusions and released from the hospital.

Flynn says the other officers are on administrative duty while the shooting is investigated.
