The Latest: 3 killed in medical helicopter crash identified

CINCINNATI - The Latest on the fatal crash of a medical helicopter in Ohio (all times local):

4:20 p.m.

Ohio authorities have released the identities of the three crew members killed in the crash of a medical helicopter in the southeastern part of the state.

All three crew members were from Ohio. They are 34-year-old pilot Jennifer Topper of Sunbury and two flight nurses: 48-year-old Bradley Haynes of London and 33-year-old Rachel Cunningham of Galloway.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that Federal Aviation Administration investigators are at the scene.

Survival Flight medical transportation reported around 7:20 a.m. Tuesday losing communication with a helicopter flying from the Mount Carmel Hospital in Grove City to pick up a hospital patient in Pomeroy. Wreckage was found in woods some 75 miles (120 kilometres) southeast of Columbus.

Authorities say three people aboard a medical helicopter have died in a crash in southeastern Ohio.

A vice-president of Survival Flight medical transportation says there were no patients aboard. Andrew Arthurs says the three who died were crew.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the company reported at around 7:20 a.m. Tuesday losing communication with a helicopter flying from the Mount Carmel Hospital in Grove City to pick up a patient in Pomeroy. Authorities located wreckage nearly three hours later in rugged terrain near the community of Zaleski. That's about 75 miles (120 kilometres) southeast of Columbus.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro in Chicago says the helicopter was a Bell 407. Molinaro says the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will have investigators at the scene.

Ohio authorities are investigating a fatal helicopter crash in the southeastern part of the state.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol in the state capital of Columbus says it expects to release details soon on the crash that was reported Tuesday morning in Vinton County. The Vinton County sheriff's office referred calls to the Highway Patrol.

Some news media reports stated that the crash involved a medical helicopter.
