Texas county Republicans to vote on Muslim vice chair ouster

FORT WORTH, Texas - Republicans in one of the most populous counties in Texas are set to decide if they should remove a Muslim vice party chairman following allegations that he prefers Islamic over U.S. law and opposes the GOP's pro-Israel stance.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that the infighting over Shahid Shafi has deterred potential donors from giving to the Tarrant County Republican Party's main fundraiser in February. Some party members have speculated that fundraising efforts will be drained altogether if Shafi is removed, jeopardizing the party's 2020 campaign.

The Tarrant County GOP executive committee will decide Thursday whether to remove Shafi from the post.

Shafi has denied that he favours Shariah law, saying he supports the American court system.
