BOSTON - A Boston area leader of the violent Central American street gang MS-13 has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for a racketeering conspiracy involving assault, drug and firearms charges.
Federal prosecutors said Thursday that 33-year-old Santos Portillo Andrade acknowledged assaulting a person he thought was a member of a rival gang in Malden in 2008, and pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute heroin and cocaine. Andrade, a native of El Salvador living in Revere, was also sentenced to four years of probation and faces possible deportation upon completion of his sentence.
The U.S. attorney's office says Andrade was the leader of MS-13's East Boston Loco Salvatrucha clique.
He was one of more than 60 members of the gang indicted last year and is the 19th to be sentenced.
